🤍 June is Men's Health Awareness Month.
Typically, when I speak of health, this includes mental health... stress, emotional regulation, research surrounding various diagnoses , etc.
However, let's focus in on this for a moment.
I came across this article from the CDC where it says "Men have higher rates of getting and dying from cancer than women."
I was not aware of this.
On second thought, I remembered the various factors that influence men's health.
The most immediate:
🍎Marketing
🍎Impact illness has on their identity & mental health
🍎The need for men to gather with each other, discuss their health concerns, and provide appropriate resources: Speak on/disseminate evidence-based information pertaining to various (chronic) illnesses they are experiencing ...
What behaviors can people engage in on a micro as well as macro level to address the concern for cancer rates within the male demographic? Let’s consider the following:
Encourage routine screenings
Document changes (regression/improvement)
Maintain open lines of communication with healthcare providers
Seek professional support as you navigate your healthcare journey. Sometimes the unknown/ experiencing periods of uncertainty can be emotionally and mentally overwhelming.
Consider joining support groups within your community as this is a way to potentially broaden your support system, expand your access to resources, and help others.
The American Cancer society has a plethora of resources that can be of assistance.
